Frequently asked questions

So I'm a product/ industrial designer by trade. So I specialise in designing consumer goods, things that you can pick up in your hands or that you get on the shelf at a store. 

For eight years I worked from nine to five, always wanting to do my own thing, tried once to quit my job and start my own business up from scratch, failed miserably and decided that the only way that I would be able to succeed is to invest in mentorship when it came to sales, marketing, business fundamentals.

So once I got back to the security of a nine to five job got my first business model up and running, started to generate just a few sales by pushing free traffic from LinkedIn to a very simple webpage.

And within the space of a few months started using paid traffic and grew up to $80,000 a month. So I quit the nine to five job and started focusing on how to deliver all of this work that I could win.

When I started to reach out to other design firms in Melbourne and Sydney and Australia, asking for help to deliver these projects, I found that nobody was really interested in contracting to me, but they were prepared to pay to learn how is that able to generate all of these opportunities. This is what led me to believe that there was a problem in the design space that needed to be addressed.

So this is what really started the ball rolling for the training program. And three years later 160+ people have gone through the program in 5 countries around the world.

The program is really all of the lessons, learnings and successes from building my own design business to the multiple six figure mark and helping another 160+ designers turn what they know into it's most optimal business model.

So the program is not about giving you more work to do on top of your existing day to day schedule. It's really showing you how to replace your existing activities with more powerful activities that are going to help you move closer towards your goals. So one big misconception is that you're going to have to add all of the stuff we teach you, but what we're going to show you is how to replace your daily actions, how to reduce the amount of time that it takes to deliver projects and replace that time with business development, marketing, and a longterm strategy.

The only major cost really is paid traffic once you get to that point. So we don't tell people to come into the workshop and start spending money on paid traffic. What we do is we get you into the workshop, build that your offer, start reaching out to the marketplace, using free strategies through LinkedIn, Facebook and email. Once you've got a couple of projects closed, then you can use some of that profit to invest in paid traffic if it's something you want to pursue (80% of designers hit their revenue goals without paid traffic). 

We also recommend Linkedin Sales Navigator for those design businesses wanting the scale their outreach. This costs $59/month but is not necessary to get started.

The only other piece of software that you might be interested in is Clickfunnels at $99/month, which is a website template software that allows you to import our funnel templates in a matter of minutes. But if you are experienced at building websites or, you know, somebody that can do it for you, then you're more than happy to do that instead.

So design propulsion works if you do the work, so we can guarantee that what we provide you with is the strategy that is going to get you in front of the right people. And you're going to get the skill set to close these people into paid projects, but we can't guarantee that you're going to do the work. It is hard work. We're not going to sugar coat. This it's about consistent effort taking action. And whenever you've got a question or you need support, accessing the live coaching calls, asking questions in the Facebook group, or on the one on one coaching goals.

So pretty much every type of designer outside of fashion. So predominantly we work with design businesses that are commercially & private client facing, which means that your clients are generally business entities or individuals. So we work with a lot of branding and graphic designers (60%+) because obviously that's a good representation of who most designers are, but then also architects, building designers, interior designers, animation designers, product, and industrial designers.

Yes we prefer and encourage contractors. We see too many design businesses hire permanent staff when they haven't yet build the consistency or demand required to safely cater for internal employees. 

Using contractors is recommended as capacity for staff can grow with demand for deliverables. 

 

The program is built for busy design business owners who all-ready have a full schedule. Our job is to show you how to use you existing time more productively instead of adding homework to the end of your day. 

Even though there is 42 hours of content in the program, our role is to identify what areas in your business need the most attention then prescribe the tools and knowledge to make the biggest change/impact.

Yes indeed. This is by far the most important aspect to the program and the most impactful to all of our students results. We provide you with the training to build out your initial offer draft them continuously work with you to improve/make adjustments.

Who your offer is built for is the single most important aspect to your success, we spend the first 25% of the workshop getting our ideal client right because this effects the performance of everything.

This really depends on your ability to take action. We have people who come in, build everything out and generate calls within 4 days, but the student average to generate calls is 2-3 weeks.

Yes. It is impossible to delegate creation of content, coaching or mentoring if the person doesn't have the experience in building a successful design business. Therefore all interactions throughout the program will be with myself. 

We have students going through the program in 9 countries around the world. The reason that our strategy is translatable to all countries is because solving big business problems is the foundation of business. We also commonly find that the minute that students solve a valuable problem no-one else is solving, they are able to generate international clients as easy as local ones.

The workshop only works in parallel with your ability to implement and take action. Please understand that this workshop requires hard work and consistency.

We have the strategy that works and the results from hundreds of designers in 10 design niches, but it requires you to work and stay accountable/ask for guidance when you need it.

Then when will be the right time to turn your experience into a business model that can support your family and your future?

It's never a good time to start building a better design business, this is why most designers don't have one.

Don't get us wrong, most training programs on growing your business are really good, the problem with courses and programs that are built for the general market, is that they assume that your product/service is already in the best format to communicate value to clients. This is not the case within most design business.

The big issue most designers have is that their product/service has not been formatted and presented in its most optimal form, so all of the great marketing and sales strategy they apply to it brings little to no results.

Understanding that this is the big key for design businesses, we focus 50% of the program and engagement on getting the offer and communication of value right, then layering with proven and effective marketing and sales strategy.
